Hope Island sits in the inner protected waters of DFO subarea 13 near Olympia, Washington, where a rocky drop-off falls from about 30 feet to 150 feet. The structure holds Chinook Salmon through their June to September peak and Coho Salmon from July into October, alongside resident Lingcod, Black Rockfish, Pacific Cod, Pacific Halibut, and Leopard Shark. Anglers work the Chinook by trolling flashers, cut-plug herring, trolling spoons, and hootchies along the edge, with mooching whole or cut-plug herring on banana weights and jigging metal or leadhead jigs when fish stack tight to the rock. Coho respond to trolling flashers with hoochies, trolling spoons, and cut-plug herring, and to mooching or metal jigs over the same contour. The sheltered exposure keeps the drop-off fishable across a range of tides, with the deeper rock giving bottom species reliable holding water.
