Silver Spit is an exposed sand flat off Olympia, Washington, in DFO subarea 13, where the bottom runs from about 5 to 30 feet. The flat draws Chinook Salmon through its summer peak from June to September, followed by Coho Salmon that hold from July into October. Anglers work the shallow, open water primarily by trolling flashers, cut-plug herring, and trolling spoons across the sand, covering ground to locate moving fish. Mooching whole or cut-plug herring and jigging metal jigs offer effective alternatives when salmon stack up over a specific depth band. The flat also holds Pacific Halibut, Lingcod, Pacific Cod, English Sole, Rock Sole, and Butter Clam, giving the ground a mix of pelagic and bottom-oriented species through the season.
