Elwha River Mouth

The Elwha River Mouth is an outer-exposed bay along the Strait of Juan de Fuca near Port Angeles, Washington, where mixed bottom terrain runs through depths of 5 to 40 feet. Chinook Salmon move through in strong numbers from June to August, while Coho Salmon peak from June to September and Cutthroat Trout hold near the estuary edges. Anglers targeting Chinook rely on trolling with whole herring, trolling spoons, flashers, and hootchies, with mooching cut-plug or whole herring and jigging metal jigs filling in over the mixed bottom. Coho respond to trolling flashers, hoochies, spoons, and cut-plug herring, and to mooching whole or cut-plug herring across the shallower stretches. The exposed setting and varied depth make it worth reading tide and current before committing to a depth range.
