Inner Protected

Apple Tree Point sits in the protected inner waters off Kingston, near Seattle, Washington, where a drop-off falls across mixed bottom through depths of 20 to 120 feet. The structure draws Chinook Salmon, which peak from July through September, and Coho Salmon, which run strongest from June through October. Trolling is the dominant approach for both species, working cut-plug herring, whole herring, flashers with hoochies, and trolling spoons along the edge of the drop-off. Anglers also mooch cut-plug or whole herring and fish metal or leadhead jigs through the deeper water where the bottom slopes away. The mix of holding depth and defined structure keeps fish stacked along the contour throughout the season.
