Cultus Bay sits in Marine Area 9 off Seattle, Washington, a shallow marine flat where depths run from 10 to 60 feet. The bay holds flounder and sole across its soft-bottom stretches, while coho salmon move through from June to October and chinook salmon peak from July to September. Anglers work the salmon by trolling flashers, hoochies, trolling spoons, and cut-plug herring through the water column, with mooching whole or cut-plug herring and jigging metal jigs as productive alternatives over the deeper edges. Dungeness crab fill the shallower reaches from July to September, taken in crab pots or ring nets baited with fish carcasses, chicken, or clams. The moderate depth range and mixed bottom make Cultus Bay a workable spot for combining a salmon troll with a crab set on the same outing.
