Inner Protected

Kingston Reef at Appletree Cove is an inner-protected kelp reef off Seattle, Washington, where rocky bottom structure rises through depths of 15 to 60 feet. The reef holds lingcod, which peak in January and again from February through April, alongside a mix of aggregate rockfish. Anglers work the rock with jigging as the primary approach, dropping metal jigs, leadhead jigs with swimbaits, or bucktail jigs across the structure for lingcod. Live bait such as greenling or herring and drift fishing with large soft plastics take fish along the same edges. For rockfish, jigging with metal jigs, leadhead jigs, and shrimp flies covers the reef, with bait fishing on herring or squid working the deeper rock.
