North Beach / Ocean Shores Salmon Grounds is an outer-exposed sand flat off Westport, Washington, running across depths of 15 to 60 feet. The open bottom holds Chinook and Coho Salmon, both peaking from June through September. Trolling dominates here, with whole herring, anchovies, trolling spoons, and hoochies for Chinook and cut-plug herring, spoons, hoochies, and flashers for Coho. Anglers also work the shallower stretches with mooching rigs of whole or cut-plug herring, or drop metal jigs when fish hold tighter to the sand. The exposed nature of the flat means most fish are found by covering water at trolling speed rather than sitting on fixed structure.
