Outer Exposed

Rennie Island is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off Westport, Washington, where the bottom falls away through depths of roughly 330 to 1300 feet. Chinook and Coho Salmon are the primary summer draw here, peaking from June through September, with trolling whole herring, anchovies, spoons, and hoochies working the upper water column and mooching cut-plug herring serving as a supporting approach. The rocky structure holds Lingcod, best from February through April, and aggregate Rockfish that peak June through September, both taken by jigging metal or leadhead jigs along the drop. Pacific Halibut move through from March into July, worked by drifting herring, squid, salmon bellies, or octopus across the deeper flats below the rock. English Sole and Pacific Cod round out the catch across this steep, exposed edge.
