About Sombrio Point

Sombrio Point is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off Port Renfrew, British Columbia, where the bottom falls from around 50 feet to 235 feet. The structure holds Lingcod, which peak from May through August, alongside Pacific Halibut running strong from March through August across the deeper water. Chinook Salmon move through from May into September and Coho follow from June through September, with the point also giving up Rougheye and Darkblotched Rockfish, Sablefish along the deeper edges. Anglers work the rock for Lingcod with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs, or drop whole herring and live greenling as bait. Halibut come on drift jigging with heavy leadhead jigs, salmon bellies, and octopus over the drop, while salmon respond to trolled anchovy, herring, and spoons through the same water.
