STRUCTURE
Drop Off
Outer Exposed

Pachena Point is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off Bamfield, British Columbia, where the bottom falls from roughly 70 to 240 feet. The structure holds Pacific Halibut, which peak from March through August, alongside Chinook Salmon from May through August and Coho Salmon from May through September. Anglers work the deeper edges of the drop-off for halibut with drift jigging, using leadhead jigs with soft plastics, metal jigs, or salmon belly, and back that up with bottom bait fishing on whole herring, salmon heads, octopus, or squid. Chinook hold to trolling with anchovy, herring, flashers, and hootchies, with mooching cut-plug herring a productive alternative along the same contours. Coho respond to trolling spoons and hootchies, and bucktailing flies works over the exposed surface water as the fish move through.
