Hump 1.0 km NE of Race Point is a rock pinnacle rising from the outer exposed waters off Campbell River, with fishable depths running from 260 to 660 feet. The structure holds Pacific Halibut, which peak from April through September, alongside Lingcod that run strongest in May and June and again from August into September. Chinook Salmon move through the area with a peak from June to August, and the pinnacle also supports Canary, Copper, Quillback, and China Rockfish. Halibut respond to drift jigging with leadhead jigs, swimbaits, or metal jigs, backed by bait fishing with whole herring, salmon bellies, octopus, or squid worked near the rocky bottom. Lingcod hold tight to the pinnacle and take metal jigs and leadhead jigs with swimbaits, while Chinook are targeted by trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, or hootchies through the exposed currents overhead.
