About Race Point

Race Point is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off in DFO subarea 13-3 off Campbell River, British Columbia, where the bottom falls from 260 to 660 feet. The structure holds Lingcod, which peak in May through June and again from August into September, alongside Pacific Cod, Sablefish, and Canary Rockfish over the rock. Anglers work the drop-off for Lingcod by jigging metal jigs, leadhead jigs with swimbaits, or bucktail jigs, and back that up with whole herring, live greenling, or octopus on bait. Chinook Salmon run strongest from June through August and take trolled anchovy, herring, spoons, and hootchies, while Coho Salmon hold from May through September and respond to trolling spoons, hootchies, and cut plug herring. The exposed depth and rock structure reward tactics that stay in contact with the bottom edge where the current sweeps past.
