About Middle Point

Middle Point is an outer-exposed rock drop-off in DFO subarea 13-3 off Campbell River, British Columbia, where the bottom falls away through roughly 260 to 660 feet. The structure holds Chinook Salmon through their June to August peak and Coho Salmon across a long May to September window, with Lingcod concentrating in May and June and again from August into September. Chinook come most consistently to trolling with anchovy, herring, spoons, or hootchies, while mooching cut-plug herring works the same drop-off edge. Coho respond to trolled spoons, hootchies, and flashers along the upper water column, and bucktailing takes fish near the surface. Lingcod hold tight to the rock below, where jigging metal or leadhead jigs and bait fishing with whole herring reach the deeper contours; the site also produces Pacific Cod, Canary and Silvergray Rockfish, and Pacific Whiting.
