About Middle Point Hump

Middle Point Hump is an outer-exposed rock pinnacle in DFO subarea 13-3 off Campbell River, rising from surrounding depths that range roughly 260 to 660 feet. The structure holds lingcod, which peak in May and June and again from August through September, alongside black rockfish that stay active from May into September and deeper-water species including canary rockfish, Pacific ocean perch, and rougheye rockfish. Anglers work the rock with metal jigs, leadhead jigs paired with swimbaits, or bucktail jigs for lingcod, while whole herring, live greenling, or octopus fished on the bottom also produce over the pinnacle. Chinook salmon move through from June to August and respond to trolled anchovy, herring, spoons, and hootchies, and coho hold from May to September on trolling spoons, hootchies, and cut-plug herring. The pinnacle's vertical relief concentrates fish through the water column, making jigging effective on the structure and trolling productive across the surrounding exposed water.
