Moses Point is a rocky drop-off in Cowichan waters (DFO subarea 19-7), where the bottom falls away through a mid-exposure zone spanning depths of 260 to 655 feet. Chinook Salmon hold here through their June to September peak, with Coho Salmon following from June into October and Lingcod concentrating over the structure from June to August. Downrigger trolling with anchovy in teaser heads, hootchies, and flashers works the salmon along the edge, while jigging with metal jigs and swimbaits targets Lingcod tight to the rock. Copper Rockfish and Canary Rockfish stay on the bottom year-round, taking leadhead jigs with soft plastics or bottom-fished herring and squid. The steep contour and rock bottom keep fish stacked against the drop, making depth control over the structure the key to working this spot.
