About Fairway Bank

Fairway Bank is an outer-exposed flat in the Gulf Islands (DFO subarea 18-2), sitting over mixed bottom in 120 to 180 feet of water. Lingcod hold over the structure through the winter and early spring, peaking from February to April, and respond to jigging with metal jigs, swimbaits, or leadhead jigs, with live greenling, whole herring, or squid working as bait alternatives. The bank also draws Chinook Salmon from May to August and Coho Salmon from June to October, both taken by trolling anchovy, herring, hootchies, trolling spoons, or plastic squid across the exposed water. Bank, Silvergray, and Darkblotched Rockfish share the mixed bottom alongside Pacific Cod and Sablefish at the deeper end of the range. The combination of a broad flat and outer exposure keeps a range of species working the same depths through much of the year.
