About Minx Reef

Minx Reef is a rocky pinnacle in the Gulf Islands of British Columbia, sitting in DFO subarea 18-1 with a mid-exposure setting and depths that run from 40 to 120 feet. The reef holds a strong rockfish community, with Black Rockfish peaking from February through October alongside Blue Rockfish, China Rockfish, and Cabezon, while Lingcod concentrate over the structure from February through April. Anglers work the rock with metal jigs, leadhead jigs, and soft plastic swimbaits for both Black Rockfish and Lingcod, and back it up with bait fishing using herring, squid, or live greenling. Chinook Salmon move through from May to August and Coho from June to October, both taken by trolling anchovy, herring, hootchies, or spoons across the reef's edges. The pinnacle's rise from deeper water concentrates fish along its slopes, making the 40-to-120-foot band the primary zone to target.
