Galiano Bluffs sits along the eastern edge of the Gulf Islands in British Columbia, within DFO subarea 18-2, where the bottom drops through 80 to 180 feet of structured rock and ledge. Lingcod hold on this structure through their February to April peak, taking metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs, or bait such as live greenling, whole herring, and squid worked close to the bottom. Chinook Salmon move through from May to August and respond to trolling with anchovy, herring, hootchies, and trolling spoons, while Coho follow from June into October on trolling spoons, hootchies, and cut-plug herring. The rocky depths also hold Black and Copper Rockfish across much of the year, both worked effectively with metal jigs and leadhead jigs tipped with soft plastics. Pacific Halibut range across the deeper stretches from March to August, where drift jigging with metal jigs and herring covers the bottom during moving tide.
