About Ganges Shoal

Ganges Shoal is a rock pinnacle in the Gulf Islands of British Columbia, sitting in DFO subarea 18-3 with mid-range exposure and depths running from 25 to 135 feet. The structure holds resident bottomfish including Lingcod, which peaks from February through April, alongside Black Rockfish that stay active from February into October, plus Quillback and China Rockfish. Anglers working the rock target Lingcod with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs, backing that up with bait fishing using live greenling, whole herring, or squid, while jigging metal jigs and soft plastic swimbaits over the pinnacle produces Black Rockfish. Chinook Salmon move through from May to August and respond to trolling anchovy, herring, hootchies, and spoons, with mooching cut-plug herring as a secondary approach. Coho Salmon follow later, peaking June through October, and take trolling spoons, hootchies, and plastic squid worked along the shoal's edges.
