Bold Bluff sits along the Cowichan shoreline in DFO subarea 18-7, where the seabed drops through a working depth of 50 to 120 feet. Chinook salmon are the primary target here, holding through a peak run from June to September. Downrigger trolling covers the bulk of the water at this spot, working anchovy in a teaser head, hootchies, trolling spoons, and flashers along the sloping bottom. Anglers also mooch cut-plug and whole herring or drop metal and soft plastic jigs to reach fish staged in the deeper part of the range. The bluff's steep contour concentrates fish through the summer months, making the 50-to-120-foot band the zone to focus on.
