About Sansum Point

Sansum Point is a rocky drop-off in DFO subarea 18-7 off Cowichan, British Columbia, where the bottom falls through mid-exposure water from roughly 260 to 660 feet. Chinook Salmon peak from June through September and Coho Salmon run June through October, with downrigger trolling using anchovy in teaser heads, hootchies, or trolling spoons behind flashers working the salmon along the edge. Lingcod hold to the structure and peak June through August, taken by jigging swimbaits, metal jigs, or bucktail jigs over the rock. Copper Rockfish are present year-round and Black Rockfish peak May through August, both responding to leadhead jigs with soft plastics and metal jigs fished close to the bottom. The steep rock face concentrates fish along the depth transition, making it a spot where working jigs and trolled gear through the mid-depth band pays off.
