About Octopus Point

Octopus Point is a rock drop-off in Cowichan, British Columbia, sitting in DFO subarea 18-7 with mid-range exposure and depths falling from 260 to 660 feet. The structure draws Chinook Salmon at their peak from June through September and Coho Salmon from June into October, while Lingcod hold near the rock through the June-to-August window. Anglers work Chinook here with downrigger trolling using anchovy in teaser heads, hootchies, trolling spoons, and flashers, dropping to mooching with cut-plug or whole herring when fish sit deeper along the slope. Coho respond to trolled hootchies, spoons, and anchovies over the same drop, and bucktailing accounts for fish holding higher in the water column. Lingcod come on jigged swimbaits, metal jigs, and bucktail jigs worked down against the rock, with Canary Rockfish, Pacific Cod, Sablefish, and Blue Shark also present across the point.
