Octopus Point is a rocky drop-off in Cowichan, British Columbia, where the bottom falls away through depths of 260 to 660 feet at a mid-exposure location. Chinook Salmon run strongest from June through September and Coho Salmon from June through October, both taken by downrigger trolling and trolling with hootchies, spoons, anchovies, and flashers over the structure. Lingcod hold to the rock through the summer peak of June to August, where jigging with swimbaits and metal jigs works the drop, with live bait drifting as a secondary approach. Pacific Halibut move through earlier, peaking March to July, with drift jigging using leadhead jigs and swimbait tails suited to the deeper water. Canary Rockfish, Pacific Cod, Sablefish, and Blue Shark round out the mix over this rocky ledge.
