About Paddy Mile Stone

Paddy Mile Stone is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off in Cowichan waters, within DFO subarea 18-7, where the bottom falls away through depths of roughly 260 to 660 feet. The steep structure holds Chinook Salmon from June through September and Coho Salmon from June into October, with anglers working the edges by downrigger trolling flashers with anchovy in teaser heads, hootchies, or trolling spoons, and mooching cut-plug herring along the contours. Lingcod stack up on the rock from June through August and respond to jigging swimbaits, metal jigs, and bucktail jigs, or to live bait drifting with greenling and small rockfish. Black Rockfish run strong from May through August and take metal jigs, leadhead jigs, and soft plastic swimbaits worked over the drop, while Copper Rockfish hold near the bottom year-round and come to jigged swimbaits and bottom-fished herring or squid. The depth and exposed position make this a structure-focused spot where working the drop-off itself produces the fish.
