About Maxwell Point

Maxwell Point is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off in Cowichan, British Columbia, within DFO subarea 18-7, where the bottom falls away through depths of 260 to 660 feet. Chinook Salmon hold here from June through September and Coho Salmon run June through October, while Lingcod peak from June to August over the rock structure. Downrigger trolling with anchovy in teaser heads, hootchies, and flashers covers the salmon along the drop-off edge, and mooching cut-plug herring works the same water. Lingcod respond to jigging with swimbaits and metal jigs worked close to the rock, with live greenling or herring drifted as an alternative. Copper Rockfish stay catchable year-round on leadhead jigs and soft plastics or bottom-fished herring and squid strips along the deeper structure.
