About Grave Point

Grave Point is an outer-exposed rock drop-off in Cowichan, British Columbia, falling through depths of 260 to 660 feet within DFO subarea 17-9. The structure holds Chinook Salmon at their peak from June through September and Coho Salmon from June into October, while Lingcod concentrate along the rock from June to August. Anglers work Chinook here primarily with downrigger trolling using anchovy in teaser heads, hootchies, trolling spoons, and flashers, and switch to mooching cut-plug or whole herring when fish sit deeper on the slope. Coho respond to the same trolled spoons and hootchies along the upper edge of the drop-off, with bucktailing an option higher in the water column. Over the deeper rock, jigging metal or soft plastic jigs targets both Lingcod and Chinook, and the drop-off also produces Pacific Cod, Canary Rockfish, Pacific Ocean Perch, and Sablefish.
