About Burial Islet Hump

Burial Islet Hump is a rocky pinnacle in Cowichan's DFO subarea 18-7, rising through mid-exposure water with fishable structure from 30 to 150 feet. The rock holds a strong rockfish population, including China, Quillback, Canary, and Copper Rockfish, the last active across the full year, alongside Black Rockfish that peak from May through August. Lingcod concentrate on the pinnacle from June through August, taking swimbaits, metal jigs, and bucktail jigs worked over the rock, or live greenling and herring drifted along the structure. Chinook Salmon move through from June to September and respond to downrigger trolling with anchovy in a teaser head, hootchies, or spoons behind flashers. Copper Rockfish and Black Rockfish come readily to leadhead jigs and soft plastic swimbaits fished tight to the bottom, with herring and squid on bait rigs as a fallback.
