About Burial Islet

Burial Islet is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off in Cowichan waters, part of DFO subarea 18-7, where the bottom falls from roughly 30 to 150 feet. Chinook Salmon hold here through their June to September peak, with Coho Salmon following from June into October, and both respond to downrigger and trolling presentations worked along the edge with flashers, hootchies, trolling spoons, and anchovy. The same rocky structure supports Lingcod from June to August and Black Rockfish from May to August, with jigging metal jigs, leadhead jigs, and soft plastic swimbaits over the harder bottom. Copper Rockfish stay accessible year-round for anglers dropping jigs or bottom-fishing herring and squid along the base of the drop. The exposure keeps water moving, and tidal current across the drop-off concentrates fish where the shallower rock breaks toward deeper water.
