About Gossip Shoals Hump

Gossip Shoals Hump is a rocky pinnacle in the Gulf Islands of British Columbia, sitting in DFO subarea 18-1 with a mid-level exposure and depths running from 60 to 180 feet. The rock structure holds Lingcod, which peak from February through April, alongside Rougheye Rockfish, Shortraker Rockfish, and Pacific Cod that relate to the same broken bottom. Chinook Salmon move through from May to August and Coho follow from June into October, giving the site an extended salmon window over the warmer months. Anglers work the pinnacle for Lingcod by jigging metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs over the rock, backing that up with bait fishing using live greenling, whole herring, or squid. For salmon, trolling anchovy, herring, hootchies, and spoons covers the water column above the structure, while mooching cut-plug herring and jigging metal jigs work the tide as it pushes across the hump.
