About Salalikum Rock

Salalikum Rock is a rock pinnacle in the Gulf Islands of British Columbia, sitting within DFO subarea 18-2 at mid exposure with depths running 40 to 120 feet. The pinnacle holds a strong resident population of bottomfish, with Lingcod peaking February through April and Black Rockfish producing from February into October, alongside Copper, Canary, and China Rockfish through much of the year. Jigging with metal jigs, leadhead jigs, and swimbaits works the rocky structure for lingcod and rockfish, while bait fishing with live greenling, whole herring, or squid draws lingcod holding tight to the pinnacle. Chinook Salmon move through from May to August and Coho from June to October, taken by trolling anchovy, herring, hootchies, and spoons over and around the structure. The steep rock relief concentrates fish across the 40-to-120-foot range, making depth control central to both bottom and salmon presentations here.
