About Spire Rock

Spire Rock is a rocky pinnacle in the Gulf Islands of British Columbia, sitting in DFO subarea 18-2 at moderate exposure with depths running 40 to 120 feet. The structure holds a dense rockfish community, with Black Rockfish peaking February through October and Copper Rockfish available year-round, alongside Canary, Quillback, and China Rockfish across the rocky slopes. Lingcod concentrate on the pinnacle from February through April, taken by jigging metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs, or on bait fishing with live greenling, whole herring, or squid worked close to the rock. Chinook Salmon move through from May to August, with trolling anchovy, herring, hootchies, or spoons over the deeper edges the dominant approach. The rockfish respond to jigging metal jigs and leadhead jigs tight to structure, while bottom fishing with herring, squid, or cut bait covers the copper and quillback holding near the base.
