Spire Rock

Spire Rock is a rocky pinnacle rising through mid-exposure water in the Gulf Islands of British Columbia, holding structure across a 40 to 120 foot depth range. The rock face concentrates lingcod, which peak from February through April, alongside a steady mix of black, copper, quillback, canary, and China rockfish, with black rockfish available February through October and copper rockfish present year-round. Anglers work the pinnacle with metal jigs, leadhead jigs, and swimbaits for lingcod and rockfish, and drop live greenling, whole herring, or squid on bait rigs when fish hold tight to the rock. Chinook salmon move through from May to August and respond to trolled anchovy, herring, hootchies, and spoons, or to cut-plug herring on the mooch. Pacific halibut range across the deeper edges from March to August, taken by drift jigging metal jigs and leadheads or soaking whole herring and squid on the bottom.
