About Wilmot Head

Wilmot Head is an outer-exposed rock drop-off in the Gulf Islands of British Columbia, falling through depths of roughly 260 to 660 feet within DFO subarea 17-1. The structure holds a strong bottomfish population, with Lingcod peaking February through April and Black Rockfish available across a long window from February to October, alongside Quillback and Canary Rockfish. Jigging with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs works the rocky contours for Lingcod, while bait fishing with live greenling, whole herring, or squid covers the supporting approach along the drop. Chinook Salmon move through from May to August and Coho from June to October, both taken by trolling anchovy, herring, hootchies, and trolling spoons over the exposed edge. The steep rock face and deep water reward anglers who keep presentations close to structure and adjust depth as the tide shifts.
