Nanoose Bay Entrance is an outer-exposed drop-off near Nanaimo, British Columbia, where mixed bottom structure falls away through depths of 40 to 180 feet. The drop-off draws Chinook and Coho Salmon through their peak from June to September, while Rockfish hold over the bottom structure year-round. Anglers work the salmon with trolling using anchovy, herring, flashers with hoochies, and trolling spoons, and shift to mooching cut-plug herring or jigging metal jigs along the deeper edges. Rockfish come to jigging with metal jigs, leadhead jigs, and soft plastic swimbaits worked close to the mixed bottom, or to bait fishing with herring and squid. The steep depth transition concentrates fish where the shallows break into the deeper water, giving anglers a defined structure to target across the full 40-to-180-foot range.
