Ranch Point is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off in DFO subarea 17-20 off Nanaimo, British Columbia, where the bottom falls away through depths of 260 to 660 feet. Chinook and Coho Salmon both peak from June through September, drawn to the structure and the moving water along the edge. Trolling anchovy, herring, or flashers with hoochies works the salmon through the water column, while jigging metal jigs offers a supporting approach. Lingcod hold on the rock and peak in March through April and again from May into August, taken by jigging metal jigs, swimbaits, or leadhead jigs along the drop. Black Rockfish stack through the same rocky ground from February to September and respond to metal jigs and leadhead jigs with soft plastics, with Pacific Halibut, Copper, and Quillback Rockfish rounding out the mix over the deeper contours.
