Dorcas Rock is an exposed pinnacle off Qualicum Beach, British Columbia, rising over rocky bottom in an outer, current-swept setting with depths running 40 to 120 feet. Lingcod hold on the structure through their winter peak from January to March, while Pacific Halibut move across the surrounding seabed from March into August, and Chinook and Coho Salmon pass through the summer and early fall, with Chinook peaking July to September and Coho from June to October. The pinnacle's rock also supports Canary, Copper, Quillback, and China Rockfish. Anglers work the vertical relief for Lingcod with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs, or drop whole herring, squid, or live greenling as bait. Halibut come to drift fishing over the deeper flats with whole herring, salmon bellies, octopus, or large jigs, and salmon respond to trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, or hootchies along the exposed edges.
