About Dorcas Rock

Dorcas Rock is an outer-exposed pinnacle off Qualicum Beach in DFO subarea 14-2, rising through rocky bottom across a depth range of 40 to 120 feet. The structure holds a strong groundfish community, with Lingcod peaking January through March alongside resident Canary, Copper, Quillback, and China Rockfish. Anglers work the pinnacle for Lingcod by jigging metal jigs, swimbaits, or leadhead jigs over the rock, with bait fishing whole herring, squid, or live greenling as a supporting approach. Chinook Salmon move through from July to September and Coho from June to October, both taken by trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, or hootchies along the exposed edges. The rock's depth and vertical relief concentrate fish on the upper structure, rewarding presentations kept close to the pinnacle.
