Pearse Reefs is an outer-exposed rock pinnacle off Port McNeill, British Columbia, rising through depths of 60 to 180 feet where current sweeps across broken structure. Pacific Halibut hold along the base and adjacent flats and peak from May through August, while Lingcod work the rocky high spots with strong windows in February and March, June and July, and August through September. The pinnacle also draws Chinook Salmon from May through August and Coho from May through September, along with a mix of Pacific Ocean Perch, Rougheye, Shortraker, and Darkblotched Rockfish over the deeper rock. Drift jigging with leadhead jigs and plastic swimbaits or metal jigs covers halibut across the 60-to-180-foot range, with bottom bait fishing using whole herring, salmon heads, or octopus as a supporting approach. Lingcod respond to jigging with metal jigs and swimbaits over the structure, and salmon are taken by trolling whole herring, spoons, or flashers with hootchies through the exposed water above the reef.
