Hump 0.7 km S of Boat Cove is a rocky pinnacle off Qualicum Beach, British Columbia, rising through a wide depth range of 30 to 545 feet in mid-exposure water. The structure holds lingcod, which peak from January through March, alongside a mix of quillback, canary, and copper rockfish that relate closely to the rock. Pacific halibut move onto the surrounding bottom from March through August, while Chinook salmon peak July through September and coho run June through October. Lingcod respond to jigging with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs worked over the pinnacle, and halibut come to drift fishing with whole herring, salmon bellies, or octopus across the deeper flats. Salmon are taken by trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, or hootchies through the water column above the structure.
