The Hump 1.3 km NW of Sangster Island is a rocky pinnacle rising through mid-exposure water off Qualicum Beach, British Columbia, with depths spanning roughly 30 to 185 feet. The structure holds resident lingcod, which peak from January through March, alongside Copper, Quillback, and China rockfish across the same rocky terrain. Anglers work the pinnacle for lingcod by jigging metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs over the rock, or by fishing whole herring, squid, and live greenling near the bottom. Pacific halibut move through from March into August, taken by drift fishing whole herring, salmon bellies, and octopus across the deeper edges, while Chinook salmon peak from July to September and Coho from June through October, both worked by trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, and hootchies over the structure. The mix of shallow rock and deep flanks lets crews target bottomfish and passing salmon on the same tide.
