About Elephant Eye Point

Elephant Eye Point is an outer-exposed rock drop-off in DFO subarea 14-3 off Qualicum Beach, British Columbia, where the bottom falls from roughly 260 to 660 feet. Chinook Salmon hold here through their July to September peak, with Coho Salmon running from June into October and Lingcod moving onto the structure from January through March. Chinook respond to trolling with anchovy, herring, spoons, and hootchies along the drop-off, while Coho take trolled hootchies, spoons, and bait strips worked behind a flasher over the same edge. Lingcod and Black Rockfish stack on the rock itself, and jigging metal jigs, leadhead jigs, and swimbaits down the slope reaches both, with Black Rockfish active from April through September. Quillback and Copper Rockfish, Pacific Cod, and Kelp Greenling round out the bottom species holding on this exposed structure.
