Poor Mans Rock Hump is a rocky pinnacle off Qualicum Beach, rising through mid-exposure water where depths run from 155 to 455 feet. The structure holds Pacific Halibut from March through August and Lingcod that peak January through March, with Rougheye Rockfish, Canary Rockfish, and Pacific Ocean Perch also relating to the hard bottom. Halibut come to drift fishing over the pinnacle with whole herring, salmon bellies, octopus, or large jigs, while anchoring with salmon heads works the deeper flanks. Lingcod respond to jigging metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs worked close to the rock. Chinook Salmon move through from July into September and Coho from June into October, both taken by trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, or hootchies above the structure.
