About Young Point

Young Point is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off Qualicum Beach in DFO subarea 17-11, where the bottom falls away through depths of 260 to 660 feet. Chinook Salmon hold here through their peak from July to September, while Coho Salmon run across a longer window from June to October. Trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, or hootchies works the salmon along the drop, and cut-plug herring on the mooch covers the same water when fish sit deeper. Lingcod occupy the rock structure with a peak from January to March, taken on metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs worked close to the bottom. Pacific Cod, Darkblotched Rockfish, Spiny Dogfish, and Sablefish also share this deep, exposed edge.
