Young Point sits off Qualicum Beach on British Columbia's coast, an outer-exposed rock drop-off falling through depths of 260 to 660 feet. Chinook Salmon move through in strongest numbers from July to September, while Coho Salmon hold to a longer window from June into October, and both respond well to trolling spoons, hootchies, and bait strips worked behind a flasher along the edge. Lingcod peak over the winter from January to March, taken by jigging metal jigs and swimbaits or dropping bait into the structure. Pacific Halibut show from March through August, with drift fishing over the rock using whole herring, salmon bellies, or large jigs the standard approach at these depths. The steep contour and hard bottom concentrate fish along the drop, and adjusting jig and bait depth to match the layer where fish are holding is the key to working the point.
