STRUCTURE

The Hump 1.2 km SE of Poyntz Island is a rock pinnacle rising off the seabed near Sayward, British Columbia, sitting in mid-exposure water with depths that range from 30 to 545 feet. Chinook Salmon hold here through the summer with a peak from May to August, while Coho Salmon follow from June to October, and both respond well to trolling with anchovy, herring, hootchies, or trolling spoons over the structure. Pacific Halibut peak from April to August and take drift-jigged leadhead jigs, metal jigs, and soft plastic swimbaits worked along the deeper base of the pinnacle. Lingcod concentrate on the rock through February to April and again in late summer, and jigging with metal jigs, swimbaits, or leadhead jigs draws them off the harder edges. Canary Rockfish, Pacific Cod, Sablefish, and the occasional Sixgill Shark round out the mix across the wide depth band.
