The Hump 1.5 km E of St. Vincent Bight is a rock pinnacle rising from outer, exposed water off Sayward, British Columbia, with depths running from 35 to 420 feet. Chinook Salmon hold here through their May to August peak, followed by Coho Salmon from June into October, while Lingcod fish strongest February through April and again in late summer. Pacific Halibut move over the structure April to August, and the surrounding rock holds Redstripe, Silvergray, and Canary Rockfish along with Pacific Cod. Trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, and hootchies covers the salmon over the pinnacle, and jigging metal jigs or working leadhead jigs down the rock face targets Lingcod and Halibut in the deeper water. The steep relief and exposed position concentrate fish along the pinnacle's edges, so keeping baits close to structure through the depth range pays off.
