STRUCTURE
Drop Off
Mid

Bowen Island sits in Queen Charlotte Channel just northwest of Vancouver, a rocky drop-off in DFO subarea 28-1 where the bottom falls through 80 to 300 feet. Lingcod hold on the structure through the winter and early spring peak from November to April, while rockfish stay catchable across the full calendar year. Chinook push through the channel from June to August and coho follow from June into September, both worked along the shelf edges on downrigger trolling with anchovy in teaser heads, hootchies, trolling spoons, and flashers. Jigging the rock with leadhead jigs and soft plastics, metal jigs, and swimbaits produces lingcod and rockfish along the deeper breaks, and live bait drifting with greenling or pile perch targets larger lingcod during the winter window. Tidal current sweeping through the channel concentrates bait against the drop, making tide changes the productive windows for salmon mooching cut plug herring higher in the water column.
