Defence Islands is a rocky pinnacle in the waters off Vancouver, British Columbia, rising through moderate exposure with fishable structure between 40 and 120 feet. The site holds Chinook Salmon, which peak from June through August as fish stage around the rock. Downrigger trolling is the dominant approach here, working whole herring, anchovy, trolling spoons, and hootchies along the contours where the pinnacle breaks the current. Mooching with whole herring, cut-plug herring, or anchovy covers the same water at a slower pace, while jigging with metal jigs targets fish tight to the rock. The mix of depth and structure lets anglers adjust presentation to where the salmon are holding through the summer window.
