Salmon Rock is a kelp-fringed rock reef off Vancouver in DFO subarea 28-3, sitting at mid-exposure with working depths from 40 to 120 feet. The structure holds Chinook Salmon through their June to August peak and Coho Salmon from June into September, both drawn to the bait that stacks along the reef edge and kelp margins. Downrigger trolling is the dominant approach for both species, running anchovy in teaser heads, hootchies, and trolling spoons behind flashers along the depth contours. Mooching cut plug herring or jigging metal over the rock produces Chinook when fish sit deep, while bucktailing and casting small spoons work the surface bite for Coho when they push shallow.
