Vancouver Harbour's First Narrows is a tidal corridor marked by the Bell Buoy at Q7/Q9, where a rocky bottom drops through depths of 40 to 180 feet just off Vancouver, British Columbia. The channel funnels current and baitfish through the narrows, concentrating Chinook Salmon from June through August and Coho Salmon from June into September. Downrigger trolling works the primary Chinook fishery here, running whole herring, anchovy, trolling spoons, and hootchies along the rock structure, while mooching cut-plug herring accounts for fish holding closer to the bottom. For Coho, trolling spoons, hootchies, and flashers cover the mid-depth water, with metal jigs an option over the harder rock edges. Tide movement through the corridor drives the bite, pushing bait against the structure and setting up predictable feeding lanes on the exchanges.
