About Seal Rocks

Seal Rocks is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off Fort Bragg, California, where the bottom falls away through depths of 330 to 1,300 feet. The rock structure holds a strong rockfish population, with Black Rockfish peaking March through June and again in July and August, and Blue Rockfish running strong from March through September. Lingcod concentrate over the same structure in January and February and again in August and September, while Chinook Salmon move through the area from April into September. Anglers work the rock with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs for Black Rockfish and Lingcod, while shrimp fly rigs tipped with squid strips take Blue Rockfish along the drop. Cabezon hold tighter to the bottom, where squid, shrimp, and crab fished on the rock produce best during their March-to-May and September-to-October windows.
