Platform Emmy sits over mixed bottom in outer, exposed waters off Santa Monica, California, where depths run 200 to 350 feet around the structure. Yellowtail drive the summer fishery here, peaking May through October and taking live sardines, mackerel, and anchovies, with yo-yo jigging and surface iron backing up the live-bait approach. Calico Bass hold along the structure from April through August and respond to swimbaits, soft plastic grubs, and leadhead jigs, while California Sheephead work the bottom April through September on live shrimp, squid, and cut mackerel. As the water cools, Lingcod take over from September into February, targeted with vertical jigging on metal jigs and leadhead swimbaits or live sanddabs drifted near the bottom. Spring brings White Seabass and California Halibut into the mix from March through July, the seabass on live squid and sardines and the halibut on drifted live anchovies, sardines, and smelt.
