About Abalone Point

Abalone Point is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off Laguna Beach, California, where the bottom falls away through roughly 260 to 660 feet. The structure holds Calico Bass, which peak from March through May and again from June into September, alongside California Sheephead that stay active from March through October and White Seabass concentrated between March and June. Barred Sand Bass move through in numbers from June to August, while California Halibut hold from April into August across the shallower edges of the slope. Anglers work Calico Bass with swimbaits and soft plastic grubs over the rock and target Sheephead by bottom fishing market squid and live shrimp against the same structure. White Seabass respond to live squid and live sardines along the drop, and drifting live anchovy or live sardine covers both Barred Sand Bass and Halibut over the deeper contours.
