STRUCTURE

Farnsworth Bank is an offshore rocky pinnacle off Santa Monica, California, rising from a seafloor that ranges from 50 to 250 feet deep. Its high-relief structure holds Yellowtail through the summer stretch from May to October, White Seabass from March to July, and California Sheephead from April to September, while Vermilion and Sunset Rockfish and the broader rockfish aggregate stay catchable year-round. Anglers work the deeper reef with deep dropping using squid strips and shrimp flies for vermilion, and drop dropper loops baited with squid and cut mackerel across the rockfish grounds. Yellowtail come on live bait such as sardines and mackerel over the pinnacle, with yo-yo jigging and surface iron covering the water column when fish push up. Lingcod fill the cooler months from September to February, taking metal jigs and leadhead swimbaits worked vertically along the rock.
